Math festival is showing the dream of students

‘How to remove the fear of mathematics?’ ‘What is the difference between positive and negative numbers?’ Students got simple solutions to all such questions at the Brahmanbaria Regional Mathematics Festival.

The seventh session of the regional phase of the Dutch-Bangla Bank-First Alo Mathematics Festival was held in Brahmanbaria on Wednesday under the slogan ‘Learn Mathematics, Dream’.

There, in the question and answer session, they ask various questions and get the answers from the guests.

Ignoring the cold in the morning, 336 students from 9 upazilas of Narsingdi and Brahmanbaria appeared at Brahmanbaria Government College, the venue of the festival. Next to this college is the ground of Niaz Muhammad High School in Brahmanbaria.

Brahmanbaria Government College Principal Bibhutibhushan Debnath inaugurated the festival by hoisting the national flag at around 9:30 am. He said that Prothom Alo is doing many social activities along with math festival.

Professor Vibhutibhushan Debnath said, ‘Mathematics is an essential part of life. Without mathematics, our life cannot go on at all.

Also we have math phobia. Because of this, it can be seen that many students are failing in mathematics every year. Mathematics is not really a subject of fear.

Mathematics is a logical subject. It is for this logic that we have to learn mathematics and practice it in life. The fear of mathematics should be removed.

The flag of Bangladesh Mathematics Olympiad was hoisted by Dutch-Bangla Bank’s Brahmanbaria branch manager and senior assistant vice president of the bank.

Ariful Haque, Vice Principal of Brahmanbaria Government College Hamza Mahmud hoisted the flag of International Math Olympiad. On this occasion, Asif Tutorial and High School student Anisha Islam, Pritha Chatterjee and members of Brahmanbaria Bandhu Sabha performed the national anthem.

The 1 hour and 15 minute exam starts at 10 am. At around 11:30 am the cultural performance started with math songs. The cultural program was conducted by Bandhu Sabha member Korbi Chowdhury.

Bandhu Sabha members participated in various cultural performances. Two solo dances by Bandhu Sabha member Hossain Mohammad; Sabuj Molla, Hossain Mehmed, Subarna Akhtar and Tisha Akhtar performed party dance. Poems were recited by Sheikh Tania, Nupur and Ujjal Molla.

Engineer Ahmed Shahriar, Academic Councilor of Bangladesh Mathematics Olympiad Committee and Engineer Ashraful Al Shakur moderated the question and answer session at the festival.

Brahmanbaria Government College Vice-Principal Hamza Mahmud, Mathematics Department Assistant Professor Abdul Quddus, Mohammad Kamal Hossain and Assistant Professor Shafiqul Islam, Chemistry Assistant Professor Abdul Khalek, Physics Assistant Professor Habibur Rahman and Chinair Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Honors College Assistant Mathematics Department answered the questions of the students. Professor Haripad Saha. The two moderators also answered various questions.

During the question and answer session, the students were given prizes for scientific thinking and Kishore Alo magazine for the best questions.

At the end of the question and answer session, Engineer Ahmed Shahriar and Prothom Alor Brahmanbaria’s own reporter Shahadat Hossain handed over the venue memento to the Vice Principal of Brahmanbaria Government College.

At this time, the students were taught the oath to say ‘no’ to drugs, memorization and lies.

25 students won in Primary, Junior, Secondary and Higher Secondary categories in Brahmanbaria Regional Mathematics Festival. Certificates, medals and t-shirts have been distributed among these students.

They will get an opportunity to participate in the National Mathematics Festival in Dhaka. A total of 20 regional rounds will be held to select students for the National Mathematics Festival to be held in Dhaka next February.

Bangladesh Math Olympiad Committee is organizing the Mathematics Festival under the sponsorship of Dutch-Bangla Bank and under the management of Prothom Alo.
